US NAVY CHOOSES CUMMINS POWER GENERATION IN KENYA
Cummins Power Generation prides itself on providing a complete solution, one that takes
the customer from beginning to end, and even beyond. In addition to giving us an edge over
the competition, that solution opens the door to longstanding relationships. Our business
relationship with the United States Navy is no exception.

A convoy delivers generator sets to the Manda Bay base.
The Navy turned to Cummins Power Generation to update its prime power solution for its
Manda Bay base in Lamu, Kenya. Three 640 kVA generator sets will replace three 350 kVA
Cummins Power Generation generator sets and four FG Wilson generator sets.
The Naval base is not connected to the national grid, meaning that, providing prime
power is extremely important. Cummins Power Generation was selected because of the
superior quality of its diesel line of generator sets, as well as its reputation for
industry—leading service.
HELPING ETHIOPA’S OLDEST CEMENT PLANT MEET DEMAND
With changing times come changing needs. When The National Cement Share Company
of Ethiopia took over a 70–year–old government–owned Dire Dawa & Lime
Factory, they needed a new standby power solution.
 QSK60
Fortunately, Car & General (Kenya) Limited, distributor for Eastern Africa, was able
to deliver. They provided two 2,000 kVA power generators to assist in providing power
to a factory with a capacity of about 450 tonnes per day.
Dire Dawa & Lime was the first cement plant to be built in Ethiopia. Concrete now
accounts for 90% of production of non–metallic building materials in Ethiopia. It
selected Cummins Power Generation for its ability to deliver single applications as
well as large scale systems. Car & General (Kenya) is proud to be a part of an
important Ethiopian industry, and to work with such a successful company.
CUMMINS POWER GENERATION POWERS INDITEX IN STYLE

Logistics Centres are at the heart of Inditex’s business model
Based in Spain, the Inditex Group is one of the world’s largest fashion groups.
Boasting well-known brands such as Zara, Kiddy’s Class, Pull & Bear, Massimo Dutti,
Bershka, Stradivarius, Oysho and Zara–Home, the company has over 4,300 stores, with
locations in New York, Milan, Tokyo and London.
At the heart of Inditex lie its logistics centres. In order to keep up with the
fast-pace world of fashion, these centres cannot afford interruptions in power. When
Inditex needed a dependable, quiet standby power solution for its centre in Palafolls,
Spain, it turned to Cummins Power Generation.
Through its distributor in Spain, the team installed two C1675D5 generator sets;
powered by KTA 50G8 engines, and feature Power Command Paralleling PCCP3100 System
control.
Cummins Power Generation was selected over other competitors based on past experience with
other Inditex facilities. In particular, they were cited for their ability to provide highly
reliable products and services, and tailor a complete solution to meet noise emission
requirements.
ZVEZDA ENERGETIKA DELIVERS IN TOUGH CLIMATE
Providing power in dark, remote climates requires experience and flexibility.
Zvezda Energetika, distributor for Russia, recently signed an agreement with Russia’s
“EnergoAtom” Concern to provide both.

A fleeting moment of daylight in Russia’s Chukotka region.
Cummins Power Generation will provide four C1675 units to provide emergency power for the Bilibinsky Atomic site. The site powers iron and gold mining sites in Chukotka, Russia’s northeastern-most region. Chukotka has no roads, and experiences snowy weather for up to ten months out of the year.
Zvezda Energetika was chosen based on its ability to provide energy solutions in severe climates. This project will certainly put that experience to the test.
CUMMINS POWER GENERATION HOSTS
PRESS BRIEFING EVENT

Group shot of delegates and Cummins executives outside the Manston plant at Cummins Power Generation Press Briefing event.
Cummins Power Generation came under the media spotlight recently when members of
the power industry media converged on us for a dedicated Press Briefing event on
September 28. We value good relationships with key industry media and this was
clearly demonstrated both by our hosting of this important press event and by the
number of major industry editors and journalists who accepted our invitation to
attend. Representatives of trades associations, IET and ECA, and UK Trade and
Investment, also attended.
The one-day event, held at our Manston plant, provided a unique opportunity for
our company executives to meet key members of the media. The aim of the Press
Briefing was to help foster closer links with the media and to help them appreciate
the scale of the Kent site and our operations.
Andy Underwood, General Manager, Cummins Power Generation Europe, hosted the event. He
welcomed delegates and provided information on Cummins key activities and priority industry
sectors.
Product Manager, Tanguy Calvez presented a product range overview and highlighted the
company&srquo;s 2009 releases. He outlined Cummins commitment to investing a
multi–million dollar budget during the next several years into growing its business
and improving technology across the product range, including the development of low emission
products.
After a networking lunch, Andy Underwood gave an overview of Cummins Power Training.
This was followed by a low emissions debate with Richard Payne, Manager European Regulatory
Affairs, whose activities in the field have helped to propel Cummins Power Generation to the
forefront on this topic.
During a guided factory tour of our award-winning Manston plant, hosted by Chris Cox, Six
Sigma Black Belt, delegates were given a first–hand look at the assembly plant machinery
and processes. Products on display included C38 D5e, C550 D5 and C200 D2R models.
A lively Question and Answer session ended the day followed by an evaluation of the
conference. Response was extremely positive with 57% saying they would like to return for
another press briefing within the next 12 months.
“The day was well received by the press,” said Andy Underwood. “It
provided us with the all important opportunity to reinforce our media relationships and
enabled the journalists to broaden their knowledge about the scale of our Kent operations
and our global reach.”
Note: Presentations are available to distributors, and can be found on the CPGK Generator
