CUMMINS PROVIDES A TURNKEY SOLUTION
FOR SYSTEMAT

The key to any turnkey project is providing a customised solution that meets the specific needs of the customer. Systemat, an Information Technology services provider with nearly 25 years of experience offering tailor-made solutions to its own customers, turned to Cummins Power Generation to provide a tailor-made solution of its own.

A special project team, headed by Philippe van Echelpoel, installed a standby C400-D5 generator set at Systemat’s main office in Charleroi, Belgium. The generator set features an NTA855-G4 engine capable of providing 400 kVA of emergency power.

Systemat requested that the generator set not be visible therefore the team addressed this by installing the generator set under the ground, which presented a challenge, due to limited air intake. To solve this issue, a cooling system with a heat exchanger was installed, with a fountain in front of the building acting as a secondary coolant.

100 metres from the set, the team installed an ATS, therefore if problems arise, the customer can simply open the entrance door and switch to the set-mounted radiator. The project also included a 2,200 litre fuel tank, and remote monitoring and training. Systemat has signed a five-year maintenance contract for all components of the project.

This is just another example of a team coming through to meet the particular needs of a customer. Philippe’s team deserves credit for going above and beyond to provide a complete power generation solution.

NG ENERGO DIGS FOR GOLD IN CENTRAL SIBERIA

It’s no secret that Cummins Power Generation is capable of delivering complete solutions for mining operations. With projects ongoing throughout several continents, we have emerged as a power generation leader for the industry. NG Energo, one of Cummins Power Generation’s most successful dealers in Russia, will soon complete a prime power station for OAO PoliMetal, Russia’s largest gold mining company.

The station will consist of eight “energy blocks”, each with containerised C1675 generator sets. Together with a 400 kVA standby unit, these blocks will act as the sole power source for mining operations.

OAO chose NG Energo based on its ability to deliver a turnkey solution. Further, Cummins Power Generation is able to provide a product suited to the region’s severe climate and temperature fluctuations. It’s no wonder, then, why mining companies turn to Cummins Power Generation distributors for their power needs.

FAR MORE THAN A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY

Cummins Power Generation exhibits at JMP 2009

Earlier this year, Cummins Power Generation exhibited as part of the Journées Minières et Pétrolières du Mali (JMP 2009). The event was the culmination of Mali’s mining and petroleum road show, which passed through the United Kingdom in December of 2008. The touring show has earned a reputation as a place to meet and discuss Mali’s mining and petroleum potential.

JMP 2009 consisted of four days of sessions, technical workshops, tourist excursions and trade exhibits. This year, the main topic was “mining and community development”, and the conference offered a platform to discuss how Mali can maximize its mining industry while providing sustainable development and employment. Specific topics included:

  • Mali’s mining and petroleum policies
  • Long term sustainable development
  • The legal and regulatory framework surrounding
    Mali’s mining and petroleum sector
  • The environmental impact of Mali’s mining sector
  • The socio-economic impact of Malian gold mines
  • Case studies highlighting several mining projects
  • Promoting women in the Malian mining sector
  • Regional integration of Western African mining,
    infrastructure and regulations
  • Public-private partnership for the development
    of mines and infrastructure

Nearly 40 companies were present at JMP 2009, and numerous members of the public and private sectors were in attendance. It was an opportunity for Cummins Power Generation to learn more about this emerging market, and to interact with those who will shape the future of mining in Mali.

ELECTRIFYING THE GRAND CITY

A new project is lighting up the skies in Surabaya, Indonesia’s second largest city, thanks in part to Cummins Power Generation. The new, 4.5 hectare, integrated complex, coined the “Grand City”, features a 5-star hotel, convention center and exhibit hall to match the city’s growing luxury market.

PT Altrak, distributor for Indonesia, was tasked with providing a premium backup power solution for an exclusive property. To meet the customer’s needs, the team installed six C2250 D5 generator sets and DMC 200 units, which will provide seamless power supply in the event of an outage.

“Cummins Power Generation is gaining a firm foothold in this city with our reliable products and strong after sales support,” said Halim Hairuddin, Power Generation Leader from PT Altrak. With a growing population of more than three million people and a high potential from growth, Surabaya could well provide a bright future for Cummins Power Generation.

A TURNKEY SOLUTION
FOR HANSEN TRANSMISSION

Hansen
It took Belgium’s largest crane to provide power for Hansen Transmissions

Hansen Transmissions International NV is an established leader in the wind turbine gearbox market, supplying more MW of power than any other manufacturer. The company is at the forefront of the energy solutions business, so naturally it turned to a company at the forefront of power generation to provide a turnkey solution.

Cummins Power Generation installed three generator sets across two facilities in Belgium, including two in Edegem and one in Lommel. The team delivered enclosed C330 D5 generator sets, each capable of providing 330 kVA of standby power, and each containing a QSL9 engine.

The finished installation required a 5,000 litre fuel tank, which had to be lifted to the roof by the largest crane in Belgium. The team also provided the ATS Switchboard, fuel supply lines, fill neck with spill tank, connections of fuel lines and power cables, as well as testing and certification.

To accomplish all of this, Cummins Power Generation assigned a Special Project Team to complete the installation, and provide training and commissioning. This level of coordination adds tremendous value for the customer. The unique ability to deliver a comprehensive solution is why customers like Hansen have come to depend on Cummins Power Generation for standby power needs.
