Cummins Power Generation Second IPP in Brazil
05 February, 2003
Anápolis, Brazil - Cummins Brasil has entered a joint venture with Engebra to install and operate a 44 MW power plant in the city of Anápolis, state of Goiás - Brazil as part of the strategic emergency energy plan of the, Comercializadora Brasileira de Energia Elétrica (CBEE), the Brazilian government's emergency energy agency for installing power plants. The power project is contracted for a 38 months period, and will be operated and maintained by the local Cummins Distributor, Distribuidora Cummins Centro Oeste.
On December 5th, 2002, in the presence of Ricardo Vidinich, President of CBEE, the new power plant site was successfully tested -- a mere four months after the agreement was signed with Engebra. According to Vidinich, the Anápolis project is the most attractive site built in this program. This is the second major project in which Cummins Brazil is participating as the primary owner. The first being the Sete Lagoas project in the city of Sete Lagoas, state of Minas Gerais.
The installation consists of 33 Cummins Power Generation diesel generator sets (16 x 2000 DQKC providing 1.6 MW of continuous power and 17 x 1500 DFLE providing 1.1 MW of continuous power) for a total of 44.3 MW of electrical energy -- enough to supply energy for a city of 140,000 people. The energy generated by the emergency thermal power plants will supply the electrical grid of the Celg Energy Utility Company in the state of Goiás.
Enatec-Benco, a Cummins Power Generation Engineering partner in Brasil, designed, developed and installed the site as well as the fuel tanks, the fuel distribution pipelines and the safety protection systems for the project. Exxon-Mobil, Cummins Power Generation's partner worldwide, will supply the fuel for the project.
